Enerjisa Shakes Hands with Siemens on the Çanakkale Wind Power Plant
Enerjisa, a joint venture of Sabancı - Verbund, has chosen the Siemens AG and Siemens A.Ş. Consortium for granting the contract for the turnkey project of its Çanakkale Wind Power Plant with an established capacity of 30 MW, to be built in the Mahmudiye district of Çanakkale.
Enerjisa, which has taken a significant step within the scope of renewable energy investments with Çanakkale Wind Power Plant, plans to produce 90 GWh energy per annum and contributes environmental protection by reducing 50 thousand ton carbon emission.
The Enerjisa Çanakkale Wind Power Plant agreement constitutes the first step towards Enerjisa’s target to reach a capacity of 185 MW in wind power within the scope of its total target of 5.000 MW by the year 2015. According to the plans, the plant will start to be constructed towards the end of 2009 and will become operative in the middle of 2010.
The Enerjisa Çanakkale Wind Power Plant for which an investment of approximately 37 million Euro is foreseen, will have wind turbines with a wingspan of 101 meters, will be twice as large as a football field and have the largest wingspans in Turkey.
The signing ceremony of the Enerjisa Çanakkale Wind Power Plant agreement was held with the participation of Ahmet Dördüncü, CEO of Sabancı Holding, Selahattin Hakman, Sabancı Holding Energy Group President, Christian Kern, Member of the Management Board of Verbund, Bernhard Raberger, Vice Chairman of Enerjisa, Siemens AG’s President and CEO Peter Löscher, Siemens AG Energy Sector’s CEO Wolfgang Dehen and Siemens A.Ş.’s CEO Hüseyin Gelis
Ahmet Dördüncü, CEO of Sabancı Holding said: “Energy constitutes one of the most significant growth areas of the Sabancı Group and Enerjisa is taking firm steps forward towards becoming the sector’s pioneer and leader. The fact that we continue our investments uninterruptedly despite the global crisis we are faced with constitutes the best indication of our determined approach in the energy sector in addition an extremely important step towards the future of Turkey and the Turkish energy sector.”
Stressing the fact that Siemens had a deep- rooted past of over 150 years in Turkey, Siemens AG’s President and CEO Peter Löscher stated that Turkey had a great potential for growth and Siemens was determined to continue its investments here without any interruptions. Löscher who pointed out that the most apparent indication of this was the new Siemens Facilities which recently came into operation in Gebze and that the cooperation with Enerjisa would constitute solid foundations paving the path to an increase in new investments.

Selahattin Hakman, Sabancı Holding Energy Group President stated that the share of renewable energy would be around 10% in the portfolio of Enerjisa which aimed at becoming a leader with an established capacity of 5000 MW in the year 2015. Hakman emphasized that renewable energy sources contribute energy sustainability and environment protection as well as electricity supply security.Hakman also said “stated “The Çanakkale Wind Plant will constitute our first step to this effect. With our plant which will start operating in 2010 we will contribute our environmental friendly approach by reducing carbon emission 50 thousand ton/year.”
CEO of Siemens AG Energy Sector Wolfgang Dehen, stated that Turkey was expected to achieve significant growth in the energy sector as well as wind energy and pointed out that the new agreement incorporated many beginnings for Siemens. Dehen also explained that in addition to bearing the first long term service concept in the world of Siemens, the agreement signed with Enerjisa constituted the first wind power turnkey project undertaken outside Northern Europe
