The Italian architecture exhibition From Futurism to the Possible Future has been organized as another parallel exhibition of UIA 2005 Istanbul between the dates 05-15 July 2005 in Tophane-i Amire building. The exhibition has been brought to Turkey with the collobaration of Italian Cultural Center, CNAPP (National Council of Architects, Planners, Landscapists and Curators), Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Arkitera Architecture Center and UIA 2005 Istanbul Organization Committee.

The exhibition targets to show the different aspects and expressions of Italian architecture in the 1900's. Apart from that it also targets to display Italian culture, lifestyle and thinking methods from the perspective of architecture.

The exhibition, comprising models, a film strip on Italian landscapes and 65 architectural works, each represented by an original drawing, consists of 9 sections dividing the works according to typology, from Imagining the House to The Image of Work, from The Art of the Display to The City as Narration.

It presents a wide perspective from the symbolic products of the masters realized in the first 80 years of 1990's to the projects in Italy and abroad accomplished by contemporary Italian architects such as Renzo Piano, Massimilliano Fuksas, and Francesco Venezia. Such a wide range is established with a meticulous analysis never done before.

By the travel made from contemporary Italian architecture to the possible future of Futurism, besides re-discussing the 20th century of Italy, the traces of the multi-reality of the contemporary Italian architecture in the lively atmosphere of avangarde Futurist period and in the passionate debates of the masters of 30's and 50's is sought after. This multi-reality generates the multiplicity of the expressions from the interview done with history to the search of technological innovations, and to the interpretations of the rural regions with general urban patterns, from the tests on language to bring up the new social behaviours, from the design of goods to the explorations of new theoretical areas. Belonging to the 20th century modernity, architectural culture of Italy always had to determine, within the framework of different architectural cultures, the explanations, limitations, statements and seperations according to this reality.

The exhibition is based on 65 projects realized both in Italy and abroad by contemporary Italian architects since 1990. It is a journey from the professional architectural medium, which is in a mutual relationship with reality, to the researches guarded in the universities, from the limits of artist-architects to the architects of the digital era, from the projects majoring in images to each one of the creative adventures realized within a rarity of mastership. In this respect the exhibition, besides visualizing a snapshot of Italian architecture, can also be read in various different ways.

The projects of Italian architects are presented with photographs, original drawings, and models. Many projects with different functions like educational buildings, housing projects, industrial buildings, sports facilities, designs of squares, metro stations, multi-functional buildings, shopping malls, and restoration projects are presented to the audience by grouping in 9 titles which are Imagining the House, The Shape of Knowledge, The Image of Work, Theatre and Language, The Art of the Display, The Sacred as Mystery, The Aesthetics of Play, The City as Narration, and Recreating the Past.
